March 5th to March 11th, 2017

Anne Helen Petersen examines Kellyanne Conway’s CBS interview as both an active attempt to soften her image in the context of misogynistic standards on both sides of the aisle and as a first step towards stepping away from the Trump administration.

As an important complement to that piece, “What Do Feminists Owe Kellyanne Conway?” How do we separate out obviously misogynistic attacks on Conway from the fact that she actively works against the best interests of women?

Mark Harris examines how late night television hosts are handling Trump and how it’s tied to their current success. Unsurprisingly, Fallon is suffering.

Muslim Ban 2.0 is still illegal, of course; the arguments against the previous iteration still stand.

More on Trumpcare next week, but if that ghastly thing passes, it’ll take effect right around the midterm elections

And we close the politics section with yet another Anne Helen Petersen piece, this time about the marketing of crowdfunding medical expenses.

The upcoming Shibden Hall is a miniseries about 19th century lesbian diarist Anne Lister seeking a wife in the person of Ann Walker.

The epic MetaFilter thread about emotional labor is now available as a condensed and beautifully formatted Google Doc.

  1. That piece on crowdfunding expenses broke my heart. It’s not that I didn’t know how hideously awful it is that we have this popularity contest-style crowdfunding situation these days (it is so blatantly awful), but reading that piece was still hard. Anne Helen Peterson is a treasure.

The good news on the Muslim ban is that the president can’t keep his idiot mouth shut and just said at a rally that he wants to go back to the old one. Probably will help the court arguments that 2.0 has the exact same prejudicial intent as 1.0. He’s the worst person.
